Blue Bottle Coffee Aoyama: Breakfast, Menu & How to Get There from Omotesando

Blue Bottle Coffee Aoyama is Blue Bottle’s Omotesando cafe in Tokyo, and unlike the buy-only pop-ups, this is a place where you can actually sit down for hand-drip coffee and breakfast. I went with my sister one sunny morning, tried the coffee and a few toasts out on the terrace, and came away with a clear favorite. In this post I’ll share the exact way in from Omotesando Station’s A4 exit, how to order with zero Japanese, what the breakfast is really like, and which beans are worth taking home.

Is Blue Bottle Aoyama a Real Cafe, or Just a Shop?

“Can you actually sit down and eat breakfast at Blue Bottle in Omotesando?” That was the thing I most wanted to know before going, and the answer is yes. Blue Bottle Coffee Aoyama is Blue Bottle Coffee’s Omotesando branch in Tokyo, tucked on the second floor above a CABANE de ZUCCA clothing store, serving hand-drip coffee, siphon coffee and a small breakfast menu.

That’s the big difference from the Blue Bottle pop-ups a lot of us first met (mine was back when it landed in Taiwan; I was a busy auditor at the time and only ever heard about the crowds secondhand). Those were browse-and-buy only. Here you can sit, order a proper cup, and eat.

How to Get to Blue Bottle Aoyama from Omotesando Station (A4 Exit)

Come out of Omotesando Station Exit A4 and turn left roughly three times, and you’ll spot the Blue Bottle logo sign. Here’s the catch: at street level you’ll only see a small standing Blue Bottle logo board, but look up and it’s a “CABANE de ZUCCA” clothing store. Blue Bottle is hiding on the floor above it, and the stairwell up is honestly a cute photo spot.

It’s about a 2 to 3 minute walk from the station, so it makes an easy first or last stop on an Omotesando morning.

The Menu & Space: Ordering With No Japanese

You do not need to speak Japanese to order here, because an English menu and food models have you covered. Walk in and the counter is right there, with a simple English menu overhead; if that fails, you can point at the food models in the glass case below.

If you’re just like me and don’t know any Japanese, you might be wondering: can I even order here without it? Honestly, yes. Between the English menu and the food models, pointing and smiling gets you a full breakfast.

The wall by the entrance is lined with brand goods, from beans and tumblers to drip kettles, and further in there are inks, filters, drippers and tote bags (just ask staff if you want to buy). The space is genuinely roomy; they didn’t cram in seats just because there’s floor to spare, though I’m told the aisles fill up once it gets busy.

Small confession: I meant to photograph the English menu for you and grabbed the Japanese one by mistake, and didn’t notice until we’d left. So the price photo you’d see is in Japanese. The staff must have thought I was very strange: ordering in English, then photographing the Japanese menu.

The 4 Breakfast Items, Honestly Ranked (With Prices)

My clear winner is the avocado toast: soft-set egg over lightly seasoned avocado, and every bite was satisfying. It was a bright, sunny morning, so we quietly moved out to the standing terrace seats and ate in the sun. Here’s the rundown:

We ordered a few light bites for breakfast alongside the coffee.
ItemPriceWhat it isMy verdict
Avocado Toast¥700Seasoned avocado, soft-set egg, a little cheeseBest of the four
Ricotta Cheese & Seasonal Jam Toast¥450Ricotta with a seasonal touch (mushroom the day I went)Runner-up, never gets sickly
Poached Egg Toast¥850Toasted bread with a soft poached eggEgg is excellent, but a touch plain for me
Drip Coffee (Single)¥550The day’s chosen single origin, no bean pickMedium roast, calm, low acidity

Note: these are the prices from my visit and may have changed since, so treat them as a rough guide.

A couple of notes from the table: the pound cake arrives served inside a coffee filter, dense and moist, and it’s a nice non-toast option. We also grabbed an apple juice, because that much coffee is, well, diuretic. As a self-declared cheese fiend I wanted the ricotta to win, but the avocado toast was just too much my thing.

Even as a cheese fan, the avocado toast just edged out the ricotta.

Siphon Coffee & the Hand-Drip Experience

Blue Bottle Aoyama also serves siphon coffee, but only during set hours, so check when you arrive. Hand drip is a funny thing: even the same bag of beans tastes different cup to cup depending on water temperature, humidity, grind and the barista’s hand. The barista that day didn’t mind being in frame and even came over to chat, which isn’t something you run into often in Japan.

Buying Blue Bottle Beans to Take Home

Yes, you can take the taste home, with beans priced at around ¥1,500 per half-pound (before tax) for both Blend and Single Origin. If you want a reference point, the Blend “Giant Steps” leans rich, full-bodied and syrupy. You can also check the current line-up on the official Blue Bottle Japan site. Grab a bag on the way out and the staff will sort you.

Who It’s For (and Who Can Skip It)

Go if: you want a calm sit-down breakfast near Omotesando, you’re nervous about ordering in Japanese, or you want to buy beans to carry home.

Maybe skip if: you only want a fast grab-and-go, or you need guaranteed seating at peak, since lines form and seats thin out within about 30 minutes of opening, so go early.
